It's almost like a scene from a Disney movie: an immaculately manicured land of  lagoons and waterfalls. A place where ducks saunter across tree-shaded lanes. Where children pass lakes and meadows on their way home from school and their moms and dads play golf on world-class courses and tennis on clay courts. It seems like another world -- far from the fast lane.

But it's not. The new fast lane of Miami-Dade County leads to points west, in the Palmetto Expressway- Miami International Airport corridor between Northwest 36th and 74th streets, where 85,000 people now work, not many fewer than the 120,000 in downtown Miami, Brickell and Omni combined. And the residential neighborhood that has sprung up there in the last decade

Doral is one of the hottest spots for development in the county. It's a place where thousands of people have decided they can have it all -- pleasant, even courtly, suburban homes in a subtropical forest of palms and flowering trees. A place where horses still graze in fields adjacent to new homes. And those new homes are close to new -- and old -- workplaces. Ryder System, Carnival Cruise Lines, Univision and other prominent companies have their headquarters in Doral. That lure has transformed Doral nearly overnight from cow pasture into burgeoning residential neighborhood, with an estimated population of 14,000 and thousands more on the way. Among Doral's top quality shopping areas are the Miami International Mall and the Dolphin Mall. Also, an established "Publix" supermarket in the Doral Plaza on NW 36 Street is found a few blocks east of the "Winn-Dixie" neighborhood mall. Another "Publix" on NW 58th Street is already open.

Doral is the home of the Doral Open, one of the most prestigious golf tournament in the United States. Golf courses, excellent schools, Country Clubs and other great amenities make this community a great place to live.
